DJ QBERT:
Spinning at the Top of His Universe
“Do you believe in aliens?” DJ Qbert (AKA Richard Quitevis) asks me while he shows me his impressive collection of robots, platinum turntables and such. “Yes, I do”, I respond. Q Bert explains that he has always been into that stuff since back in the day. He told me of a book about an alien planet and its system of karmic existence. ”I read this book and it talked about these people and the way it worked was when they did good things for the planet and made people happy, they were rewarded. They don’t have a money system. The more people you make happy. You get infinite credits. Kinda like karma. So everyone’s running around trying to do good. So, I try to live my life that way and make as many people as happy as I can with what I do,” said Q. This positive aire is very welcomed in the sometimes stale and negative hip hop community.

Years ago I clerked in a record shop. I remember one day, alphabetizing the used CD’s which is the employee equivalent of shopping on the clock, and stumbling across an album with a photo of a handsome blonde girl holding a lovely basket of flowers. Two words dotted the cover in lower case blue grey letters: helmet/betty. go here for more Jule Brown: The Groove Will Set You Free
